What licenses must Indian e-commerce companies like Flipkart and Shimply hold?

There is no special licensing requirement per se to sell online. The same rules and taxation are applicable for online sales as they are for offline sales.

The basic two core requirements would be:

  • Be a registered business entity
  • Apply Sales Tax/VAT on items sold
